Beyond your fame as an astronaut . . beyond your intellectual accomplishments . . and even beyond your unparalleled striving to achieve in whatever it is your doing . .I am most struck by what a genuine .. honest .. and .. forgive the unintended pun .. down to earth person you are. I will not forget the interest and enthusiasm you showed for other people's views and opinions on things. Your ability to relate to others... and make people almost automatically feel comfortable with you .. impressed us all. It struck me recently that perhaps one of your secrets is remembering to enjoy the basic .. elemental .. human experience 'down here' as well as 'up there'.

I, along with my wife and (I suspect) every person in the room, loved the presentation you gave last week at the NAFA meeting in Savannah. The person sitting next to me, who has certainly been to many presentations, said it was both "humbling" and "hands down, the best presentation he had ever seen". I endorse that completely.

I'm sure that this is not the first time you have heard comments like this, and I'm sure it won't be the last. You are an inspiration to those of us who admire a perfectionist passion combined with a wondrous curiosity.
